Racomitirum lanuginosum is one of the 15 mosses of the Racomitirum family existing in Chile. This species, especially, inhabits mires, humid forests and rocks exposed to a wet climate. In Patagonia, it is found every type of mire, except the geogenic type, forming patches above cushion forming vegetation like Sphagnum mosses, as well as on rocks and trunks of dead trees.
