Schoenoplectus californicus is a semi-aquatic plant common in South American wetlands. Used by Andean peoples as material for huts and rafts, and by the Mapuche and Kaweshkar people for basket-weaving. Important for the formation of peat in terrestrialisation fens in Patagonia.
